The monastery Andechs is located in the beautiful 5-lake country between Munich and the Alps. The parking lot can be reached via two motorway connections:
If you drive on the A95 Munich – Garmisch, we recommend to leave the motorway at the Starnberg junction. From the end of the motorway it takes about 20 minutes to Andechs, just follow the B2 and signs.
Option 2 is the A96 Munich – Memmingen – Lindau motorway. From the Wörthsee exit, simply follow the signs for Seefeld / Herrsching. Shortly after Camping Pilsensee in Seefeld, turn left, once up the hill towards Widdersberg. The next village is then already Andechs. In total you are on the road again for 20 minutes from the end of the motorway.
Once the motorhome is parked, then it is parked 😉 For all motorhome owners who want to stay for a few days and explore the area, the motorhome site at Andechs Monastery is perfectly located. Because once the awning is rolled out and tables and chairs are standing, you don’t want to move the motorhome again for a trip. And you don’t have to:
The monastery Andechs is directly approached by several bus lines – during the main season even in half-hour intervals.
No less than 4 stations of the S-Bahn are connected by the bus lines: Every 40 minutes a suburban train leaves and returns to Munich, in some cases clock repeaters are used for a 20 minute interval. From Herrsching and Seefeld the line S8 is on the way, Starnberg and Tutzing is served by the S-Bahn line S6.
Especially for hikes or long walks the support of the busses is very useful, so you can easily return from many destinations by bus. It is usually also possible to take a bicycle with you, but this would have to be arranged with the bus driver beforehand.
The line 951 is probably the most important one for all those who plan a little bit bigger trips: With two bigger cities as final stop, Andechs is right in between: Herrsching and Starnberg can both be reached by the same bus line. Both have a direct connection for the suburban trains.
The line 958 takes you to Tutzing and back again. Tutzing also has an affiliated S-Bahn station for a short trip to Munich.
The line 928 goes from Andechs to Seefeld and further to Walchstadt.
In Seefeld the castle Seefeld is especially recommended. With many small craft shops and a large restaurant with a beer garden you can spend the odd hour or two here. A short walk through the castle park is especially nice – especially in summer it is shady and with a small stream it is a little dog paradise.
